Do You Have To Wash Your Hair?

For most people washing your hair is a daily or weekly routine depending on how often you want or are advised to clean.

But do we really need to wash our hair this way often or at all?

Sometimes hair care can become a tedious task and cost an arm and a leg!

Throughout history, think back to prehistoric times, were people worried about washing their hair?

Probably not, so why do we see it as so important now?

We’re going to see what happens if we skip the shampoo for a while.

Where did the shampoo come from?


Different types of shampoo or hair cleaning products have been used since 1800 and at that time you were advised to wash your hair once a month.

In 1927, Hans Schwarzkopf, a German inventor, created the world’s first liquid soap.

Then in the 1930s, Proctor & Gamble, an Ohio-based company, introduced the first synthetic shampoo.

Since then, the shampoo market has only grown.

Many advertising campaigns were created around the 1970s to encourage people to wash their hair once a day, and it has become the norm ever since.

Is The shampoo bad for your hair?


You may think that using shampoo is great for your hair because it cleans it, but in fact, it can be quite harmful.

There is an underground movement in support of this and their theory is called the “no pu” method.

The theory of the no-pu method is that our hair contains natural oils and can remove these natural oils by using harsh chemical shampoos inside.

This leaves your hair in a bad condition and creates reliance on using shampoo to treat your hair.

By not using shampoo you are protecting your hair from this man-made disaster and will have healthy hair.

Just shampooing can be difficult, so sometimes alternatives are used, things like apple cider vinegar, baking soda, or just water can be used as a gentle cleanser for your hair.

Why break the cycle leads to healthy hair?


The key to fresh hair and is easy not to wash, but it is a long process. You just stop washing it and break the routine!

On our scalp, we have sebaceous oil glands that naturally produce and release oil when the hair is dry.

Every time we wash our hair it dries out and although you can use hair conditioner to smooth the hair, glandular oils will form.

If you wash your hair every day, the glands will produce extra to compensate for dry hair and as a result, it will lead to roots looking greasy.

This can lead to excess hair washing and as a result, you may want to wash it again and so you may get stuck in a vicious cycle.

Depending on the type of hair, products used in the past, and the number of times you shampoo, glands can take about 2-6 weeks to return to a normal healthy routine of oil production.

So during this time your hair may not look beautiful and may look oily due to excess oil, but it is on the way to recovery.

There are many tips and tricks to make the transition easier, such as brushing your hair regularly to distribute the oil into the hair.

Sometimes the best way is to reduce the number of times you wash your hair every week and gradually reduce it.

Benefits of not washing hair with chemicals.


Alternatively using natural products or even just using water, you are already benefiting.

Not only for the health of your hair but also for your lifestyle.

Shampoos and some hair products can contain highly toxic chemicals, although it is unquestionably okay to use them on our hair and skin. Once it is washed down the drain it can be harmful to the environment if it is not filtered properly.

These products can cost a lot every month or whenever you need to recover.

Repeatedly washing your hair will not get rid of them as they can withstand drowning for hours on end!

In most cases, there are medical reasons why you should wash your hair or use certain shampoos.
