8 Cool Facts About Kenzo

Kenzo is a famous French luxury women’s and men’s fashion brand headquartered in Paris, France.

The label was founded in 1970 and is now owned by the parent company LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Kenzo has not only created a line of unique and inspiring clothing inspired by dark colors and jungle, but she has also played a huge role in creating attractive accessories, home accessories, and perfumes.

With a sort of design with their signature Tiger print, it’s not hard to understand why everyone is crazy.

Let’s roll up our sleeves as we delve deeper into Kenzo’s wonderful world with these eight amazing facts.

The creator of Kenzo is Japanese.


The name Kenzo comes from the creator Kenzo Takada, who was born on February 27, 1939, in Himeji, Hyogo, Japan.

Kenzo tragically died on October 4, 2020, from the Kovid-19 virus.

As a child, she lived at home with her six siblings and parents, Kenji and Shizu Takada, and the family ran a hotel.

Kenzo Takada is one of the first male students to study fashion in Japan.


As a child, the Kenzo sisters attended sewing classes, and he watched them with great curiosity.

This interest was further heightened when he shook through their magazines, exhibiting various fashions from that time.

Kenzo went to Kobe City University of Foreign Studies in Kobe City, but his father died in his first year.

It was a wake-up call for Kenzo, who realized he was on the wrong track to achieving his dream.

Against the wishes of his family, he left the university and in 1958 he became one of the first male students at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo.

Demonstrating her true talent while attending fashion school, she won the Swain Prize in 1961 as part of a competition.

Kenzo always dreamed of being Big in New York or Paris.


When creating and designing, Kenzo has always dreamed of living in New York City or Paris.

Yves Saint Laurent was a major role model for her and after being taught by a teacher in France, the allure of Paris weighed heavily on her heart.

His prayers were answered if he needed land on the land where he lived for the 1964 Summer Olympic Games.

The compensation he received gave him the money he needed to start his big adventure.

Towards the end of 1964, Kenzo traveled for a month across Hong Kong, Saigon, Mumbai, and Marseille, and finally, on January 1, 1965, he arrived in Paris!

He started with fabric worth only $200.


Kenzo’s impression of Paris was not what he initially thought it would be, and he wasn’t sure if he would be there too long.

He was working as a stylist for a textile manufacturer to boost her financially.

During this time she struggled to sell her designs, and only a few fashion houses paid her very little for her sketches.

But then, in 1970, Kenzo had an opportunity to meet with a woman at a flea market who offered to rent him some workspaces in the Gallery Vivian.

With a little money in her name, she collected a variety of blended fabrics for just $ 200 and used them to create a range of eclectic and bold designs.

It paid off quickly, and in early June 1970, he appeared on the cover of Eli Magazine!

The design of the tiger signed by Kenzo almost did not go ahead.


The Kenzo label has many designers, and in 2012 Humberto Leon and Carol Lim presented a sweatshirt with a tiger face.

The Kenzo design team was not in favor of it, but it was shown in their fruit collection the same year after some initial resistance.

Little did they know that the tiger would become the company’s most iconic signature design, which would remain here.

Even in March 2018, Britney Spears was revealed as the face of Kenzo’s “La Collection Memento No. 2” campaign.

Kenzo partnered with retailer H&M, which they announced in early 2016.

The Kenzo X H&M line was officially launched in stores on November 3, 2016.

The line was a range of bold and innovative clothing, including a bright green jumpsuit, baseball cap with a laughing tiger logo, and a Chelsea boot with a green sole, to name a few.

The hype was real, and fierce eBay sellers were buying stocks at retail prices and selling up to seven times their RRP!

Kenzo is not only known for its gorgeous costumes because they have a variety of accessories. The company has a role to play in household goods and even beauty products.

In 1986, Kenzo wanted to create a new perfume, and he met Serge Mansueu, who made the perfume bottle.

During the meeting, he told Mansau that he liked pebbles and the two of them started working on sketches to create the perfect design.

An hour passed when Kenzo further announced that he too liked flowers.

Mansau finds a plastic flower and sticks it on top of the pebble with a piece of chewing gum, and so his inspirational Kenzo eo de toilet was created.

Since its re-launch in the 1970s, Kenzo is still one of the most popular luxury fashion labels today.

As a Foreign Studies student, Kenzo gave up everything and pursued his dream of working in fashion and living big in Paris.

A choice he made when he lined up his pockets, earning himself a net worth of $ 100 million after his passing in 2020.
